The body of a swimmer who went missing off a NSW beach is believed to have been found.

Emergency services were called to Maroubra Beach on February 1 after reports that a 30-year-old man had gone swimming but never returned to shore.

A huge search quickly unfolded as authorities raced to find the missing man, but tragically their efforts were unsuccessful.

NSW police confirmed the search for the swimmer continued on Tuesday, and at about 12.20pm the body of a man was found.

“While a formal identification process is yet to be completed, the body is believed to be that of the missing swimmer,” police said.

“A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.”
