Gee was found alive by a rescue helicopter in bushland about 2.30pm on Thursday.

It’s understood she has ankle and head injuries, multiple abrasions and was dehydrated.

7NEWS images show Gee sitting in a rescue chopper not long after she was found, surrounded by police and paramedics.

Dressed in a bright red top, she was seen drinking water and hugging a man.

Gee was airlifted to Nepean Hospital for further treatment where she is “recovering well”, Inspector Dave Graham said.

Police had held serious concerns for the missing hiker due to extreme heat in the area over the past few days.

Temperatures in Katoomba peaked at 33 degrees on Tuesday.

Earlier this week Gee’s tent was located in the Cathedral Reserve camping ground.

Graham said Gee was found only about 800m to 1000m from her last known position.

It appeared as though she had become disorientated and lost, Graham said.

He said it was “quite remarkable” she had been found alive.

“She’s survived in bushland by accessing water sources,” Graham said.

“She’s very grateful for the rescue and for the efforts of the volunteers here.”
