Authorities have urged locals to stay indoors after a tornado was observed scouring the Riverina in New South Wales.

The NSW State Emergency Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning to locals in the Young and Cowra areas, telling them to remain alert.

In vision captured by the NSW Rural Fire Service, the tornado is seen sweeping over the rural area.
