Newcastle: Woman, unborn child killed in horror crash, teen driver charged after allegedly fleeing scene

An unlicensed teenage driver has been charged after allegedly fleeing the scene of a horrific car crash that claimed the life of a woman and an unborn child.
Emergency services arrived at a chaotic scene after a Holden Commodore sedan with four occupants, including at least three teenagers, and a Hyundai with two female occupants, collided in the Newcastle suburb of North Lambton at around 2.40am on Sunday.
Paramedics treated the two women in the Hyundai for serious injuries, but unfortunately, the 55-year-old passenger died at the scene.

Both the driver and the front seat passenger of the Commodore allegedly left the scene on foot, leaving a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old girl with serious injuries in the back seat of the car. The pair were treated at the scene before being transported to hospital.
Police launched a critical incident investigation and on Tuesday, arrested a 19-year-old man at a home in Mayfield, who they believe was the driver of the Commodore.
He has been charged with a range of serious offences, including driving occasioning death, driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and escaping a pursuit.
Police allege he has never held a drivers licence and that the car he was driving was displaying false number plates.
He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.
