A man in his 60s has been charged after an extensive investigation into alleged historical child sexual assaults in New South Wales’ north over more than 30 years.

The man is accused of sexually assaulting four different 12-year-old boys between 1970 and 2007.

Detectives from Brisbane Water Police District began an investigation in July last year, following reports of the alleged historical sexual assaults.

The first alleged assault happened sometime in the 1970s, when a 12-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man who was known to him in Telopea, NSW Police said in a statement.

Years later, between 2002 and 2003, two boys, also aged 12, were allegedly sexually assaulted by a man who was known to them on a yacht in the Killcare area.

Then in 2007, another 12-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man while doorknocking as part of a school fundraiser in Ettalong Beach. Police said the alleged assaults lasted over four years.

Following an extensive investigation, detectives arrested a 64-year-old man at a home at Ettalong Beach about 3.15pm on Sunday.

The man was charged with five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16 years, three counts of indecent assault on a male, and rape.

He appeared before Gosford Local Court on Tuesday and was granted conditional bail. He is due back in court on Friday 15, November 2024.
