A NSW Police four-wheel-drive was stolen as officers investigated a burning car in regional NSW on Friday afternoon.

The officers had raced to Cragie Lea Rd, Narromine about 3.10pm following reports of a car fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters extinguished the blaze, but as the officers were examining the scene, their marked police four-wheel-drive Mitsubishi Pajero was stolen.

It was found 120km away in Trundle on Saturday afternoon.

However there was no sign of the alleged thief.

The man suspected of stealing the vehicle is described as aged in his late teens, Caucasian in appearance, about 175cm tall, medium build, and brown hair.
