NSW Police charge 31-year-old man over multi-vehicle fatal crash

A 31-year-old man has been charged over a horror multi-vehicle crash in New South Wales that killed a 61-year-old woman and injured others in July last year.

The crash happened about 1.30pm Wednesday, July 12, at the intersection of Blaxland Road and First Avenue, Eastwood.

NSW Police say emergency services and officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command arrived at the scene to find a Mitsubishi SUV, Holden Commodore, Kia SUV, Toyota sedan, Audi hatchback and a van had collided.

A 61-year-old female passenger of the Holden was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene. The 67-year-old female driver of the Holden was treated and taken to Westmead Hospital in critical condition. The other passenger of the Holden, a 63-year-old woman was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital also in a critical condition.

The 31-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi was treated for a head injury at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.

The other drivers aged between 23 and 49 years old were uninjured and taken to several hospitals for mandatory testing.

Police say the Mitsubishi and Holden were seized to undergo forensic examination.

“Police established a crime scene which was examined by specialist officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit,” a NSW Police statement read.

Following extensive inquiries, on Friday 10 May 2024, a 31-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – driving in a manner that is dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – driving in a manner that is dangerous, and two counts of negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm).

He was given a court attendance notice to appear before Burwood Local Court on Monday, July 1, 2024.
