Teenager fighting for life after being stabbed multiple times near Merrylands Train Station in Western Sydney

A man has been detained by police following a stabbing incident at Merrylands train station. One person suffered stab wounds and was transported to Westmead Hospital in serious condition. Police have the suspect in handcuffs near the station.

A teenager is fighting for life after being stabbed multiple times during peak hour at a Western Sydney train station.

Emergency services were called to a bus stop near Merrylands Train Station in Western Sydney about 5.15pm on Monday following reports of a stabbing.

NSW Ambulance said the 16-year-old victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

Police were told the teenager was assaulted by two men, who then fled the scene.

7NEWS chopper footage shows a man was arrested nearby, not far from the station.

However, police have since confirmed the 33-year-old man was taken into custody on unrelated matters.

A crime scene has been established and investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with any information is urged to come forward.
