Randwick: University student arrested on campus after 25,000 child abuse files allegedly found by police

A male university student is facing serious charges after police allegedly located over 25,000 videos and images of child abuse material on his phone.

The 35-year-old man was arrested at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) campus in Randwick on Monday afternoon following a police investigation.

“Sex Crimes Squad detectives have charged a university student with alleged child abuse material offences under Strike Force Glandore,” a statement from NSW Police read.

Of the thousands of videos the student allegedly had on his phone, 42 were marked as “favourites”, according to the police.

The man was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where he was charged with use carriage etc to access child abuse material.

He was refused bail and will appear in Waverley Local Court on Tuesday.
