St Mary's, Sydney: Man charged after allegedly assaulting three police officers during arrest

A man will face court after three police officers were allegedly assaulted during an arrest in Sydney’s West.

Just after 9pm on Sunday, officers were called to a business on Chapel Street, St Mary’s, following reports that a man had allegedly damaged property.

The man had left the scene before police arrived, but was later found nearby on Queen Street.

Police said the man allegedly became aggressive when officers tried to speak to him, sparking a struggle.

During the arrest, three officers were allegedly assaulted, including a 26-year-old male constable, a 31-year-old male constable and a 28-year-old female senior constable.

The 26-year-old officer was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for facial and arm injuries before being taken to Nepean Hospital in a stable condition.

A 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to St Mary’s Police Station, where he was charged with assaulting police, causing actual bodily harm, two counts of assaulting police without actual bodily harm, hindering or resisting an officer, larceny and destroying or damaging property.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Penrith Local Court on Monday.
