A 50-year-old child educator in NSW faces serious child exploitation charges after allegedly communicating online with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old girl.

“Following a review of the man’s mobile phone, detectives allegedly located videos depicting child abuse material,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“As part of the investigation, police seized a number of electronic items which will be examined by specialist police.”

A review of his mobile phone allegedly uncovered videos of child abuse material.

The man, arrested at Sutherland Police Station on Tuesday, was refused bail and will remain in custody until February next year.

Detectives from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command launched the investigation last Sunday following reports of the man’s online interactions.

He now faces charges of possessing child abuse material and possessing bestiality material, with his next court appearance set for Downing Centre Local Court on February 3, 2026.

“Police have been advised the man was immediately prohibited from working in the early learning sector anywhere in Australia by the NSW Early Learning Commission,” police said.
