Sydney Airport: High speed pursuit from Campbelltown to Mascot leaves trail of destruction across Sydney

A man has led police on a long and dangerous high-speed pursuit, leaving a trail of damage that could exceed over $100,000 before smashing through security at Sydney Airport..
Shopfronts, construction zones, street signage and other vehicles were all in the firing line as the offender went on a rampage and was chased in a ute from Campbelltown in the south west, all the way to the Sydney International Airport before crashing in a gated carpark and being arrested.
A police statement said that at around 1.50am on Wednesday, a Ford utility drove along Queen Street, Campbelltown before mounting the footpath and ramming several businesses and shop fronts.

Highway Patrol officers then spotted the vehicle enter the carpark of Campbelltown Police Station before speeding away.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Queen Street, however, when it failed to stop, a pursuit began and continued along the Hume Highway, before travelling east along the M5 Motorway and tracked by Polair for about 50 kilometres to Mascot.
The vehicle then entered a restricted Sydney International Airport area by smashing through a boom gate.

A 47-year-old man was arrested by officers, assisted by the dog squad, after the car ground to a halt.
The alleged offender was given a roadside drug test, and according to police returned a positive result for methamphetamine.
He was taken to Mascot Police Station and underwent a second test which will be sent for further analysis.
Police allegedly located and seized an amount of methylamphetamine found inside the man’s phone.

The man has been charged with six offences including not stopping a for a police pursuit, driving dangerously, drug posession and range of property damage offences that police say could amount o more than $100,000.
The alleged offender was also charged with breaching of bail.
He was refused bail and will appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday.
