He fronted court Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday, where it was heard the teen had left his group of mates by the Maldon Weir, and came across a red Hyundai.
The teenager tried to get inside the car, where Greig and a woman were sitting inside, telling them “I’m trying to get home”.
However, Greig allegedly turned on the boy, producing a large knife and stating: “I’ll get you good. I’m gonna chop your hand off.”
Greig then allegedly slashed the teen on the forearm, before speeding off in the Hyundai.
The boy crawled 30m into bushland but had bled to death by the time his mates found him the next morning.
Outside court, Greig’s lawyer Javid Faiz told 7NEWS, that if his client was found guilty there is “a likelihood of a lifetime imprisonment”.
Greig’s family said they were willing to put up $100,000 to release him on bail, arguing he was the sole provider for a four-year-old boy and his wife who was due to give birth next month.
His bail bid, however, was refused.
Meanwhile, friends of the high school student described him as a loving, selfless boy.
“He was the type of kid who would give the shirt off his back to someone who needed it more,” his friend said.
“You left a hole in my heart.”
Greig is next scheduled to appear in court via audio-visual link on January 8.
