NSW Police are investigating after a man was shot while sitting in a parked car in Penrith, western Sydney, late Friday night.

A short time later, around 10.15pm, emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle fire on Kindlebark Close in nearby Claremont Meadows.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze, and police established a second crime scene. Specialist forensic officers are examining both locations.

Detectives are investigating whether the shooting and the car fire are connected.

NSW Police say inquiries are in the early stages and are urging anyone with information, dashcam, or CCTV footage to contact Nepean Police or Crime Stoppers.
