Sydney traffic: Hume Motorway traffic banked 22km after truck catches fire near Ingleburn

Motorists in Sydney have been warned to brace for extreme delays after a truck carrying multiple cars caught fire on a major motorway, with traffic banked up for 22km.

The Hume Motorway in Sydney’s south west is experiencing “extreme delays”, according to Live Traffic NSW.

It is understood that a vehicle on the truck caught fire around 11.45am on Thursday, quickly causing mayhem for commuters stuck on an enormous stretch of the major highway.

“Three of four northbound lanes of the Hume Mwy are closed near Campbelltown Rd due to a truck fire,” a spokesperson said.

The blaze required multiple crews, with four trucks seen on site attempting to extinguish the flames.

Emergency services remain on site and motorists are warned to to allow extra travel time.
