Thousands of homes have been left without power and water after a major water pipe burst in Sydney’s North Shore.

The incident happened on Grasmere Road in Cremorne after parts of the road including the corner of Young Street collapsed under the pressure.

In a statement, Sydney Water confirmed there had been property damage to several buildings, and it is understood a customer advocate has been brought in to liaise with impacted customers.

Water was turned off, impacting more than 20,000 homes across the area as more than 19,000 residents received little to no water.

Houses across Mosman, Cremorne, Crows Nest, Artarmon, Chatswood, Roseville and Lindfield were left without power and had their taps switched off.

Repair is underway with Grasmere Road and Young Street remaining partially closed as motorists are advised to avoid the area.
