Two men killed, two injured in head-on collision on Blue Mountains highway

One driver and a passenger were killed

A man has been charged over a terrifying head-on collision in the Blue Mountains that resulted in the deaths of two men on Wednesday.

A Polestar and Toyota Camry were travelling on the Great Western Hwy at Linden when they crashed, forcing the highway to close in both directions about 5.20pm.

The 60-year-old man behind the wheel of the Toyota, and a 62-year-old man in the rear passenger seat of the Polestar were pronounced dead at the scene.

They are yet to be formally identified.

The driver and front passenger of the Polestar — a 27-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman — were treated on-site for minor injuries before being taken to hospital.

One of the cars involved in the crash was on the wrong side of the road, 7NEWS understands.

The 27-year-old driver was arrested at Westmead Hospital on Friday.

He was charged with two counts of drive manner dangerous causing death, two counts of negligent driving occasioning death and cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle.

He was granted conditional bail and is set to appear at Penrith Local Court on Tuesday.

Investigations are ongoing.
