A man is due to front court charged with the murder of his father after an alleged stabbing attack in his western Sydney home.

Emergency services were called to a home on Layton Street, Wentworthville at about 6.30am on Thursday following reports of a stabbing.

Officers found a 64-year-old man — later identified as George Vaz — had been stabbed in the neck, and despite NSW Ambulance paramedics’ efforts, the man died at the scene.

Police said a 60-year-old woman was also at the property but was not injured in the incident.

A short time after establishing a crime scene, Mr Vaz’s 34-year-old son Shayne was arrested and taken to Granville Police Station for questioning.

He was then sent to Auburn Hospital for court-ordered forensic tests, 7NEWS reports.

On Thursday night, Vaz was charged with domestic violence murder. He was refused bail and is due to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Friday.

Police said Vaz’s 60-year-old mother was also at the property but was not injured in the incident.

Detective Danny Doherty told reporters on Thursday the death was “another sad domestic-related incident”.

He said the victim was stabbed “several times” in the frenzied attack.

Detectives said the son had a history of mental health issues, and police had been called to the home before, according to 7NEWS

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
