An elderly woman and her young granddaughter have been injured when a car ran off the road onto a footpath in Sydney’s southwest.

The 72-year-old woman and four-year-old girl were hit by the car while waiting at a crossing on Old Glenfield Rd at Glenfield about 5pm on Tuesday.

Police said the vehicle allegedly sped through a red light, swerving around a 4WD, and mounted the footpath where it hit the two victims and crashed into a traffic control signal.
