Gundagai: Man busted with 35kg of meth and cocaine worth $18m stuffed into his car doors

Multiple police branches have swooped on a man driving a car full of methylamphetamine and cocaine, with a street value of approximately $18m, as he tried to drive toward the border between NSW and Victoria.

Organised Crime Squad officers charged the man after the prohibited drugs were allegedly found hidden in the door cavities of his car.

At about 9.40am on Tuesday, officers attached to Riverina police district traffic and highway patrol command – with assistance from the state crime command’s organised crime squad – stopped a Toyota Corolla travelling south on the Hume Highway near Gundagai.

During a search of the vehicle, police located 25 kilograms of methylamphetamine and 10 kilograms of cocaine bricks within the door cavities of the car.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $18 million.

The driver of the car – a 26-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Gundagai police station, where he was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug - large commercial quantity - and possess DECCD to commit serious criminal activity.

The man was refused bail to appear in Young Local Court on Wednesday.

Police will allege in court the man was attempting to transport the prohibited drugs from Sydney to Melbourne.
