Woman killed by lightning strike in southwest Sydney was at family BBQ when tragedy struck
A woman killed in a lightning strike in south-west Sydney was at a family barbecue when tragedy struck, 7NEWS can reveal.
Emergency services were called to Old Razorback Road in Cawdor, about 5.30pm on Saturday, to reports two women, both aged in their 40s, had been injured after lightning struck a tree in a backyard.
A 43-year-old woman, who suffered head injuries from wood shrapnel, died at the scene.

She was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It’s understood there were several children attending the gathering at the time of the incident.
NSW Ambulance said the woman taken to hospital suffered significant injuries.
“Paramedics transported the woman in her 40s to Liverpool Hospital,” a spokesperson said.
“She had multiple injuries including hand and face injuries and was in a serious condition when she arrived.”
The Hunter, Illawarra, and Central Tablelands regions were issued a severe thunderstorm warning by the Bureau of Meteorology about 3.10pm on Saturday.
Police have set up a crime scene at the home as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
