A woman’s body has been found inside a car in Sydney’s south, sparking a police investigation.

The woman’s body was found in the passenger seat of a car on Durham St, Hurstville, by police just after 5.15pm on Tuesday.

Police said they were called to the scene for a welfare check.

The woman is believed to be aged in her 40s.

She is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established.

The woman’s cause of death is not yet known.

The usually quiet street connects Hurstville with neighbouring suburb Carlton.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been launched.
