Multiple victims have come forward after what appears to be a terrifying crime spree through the suburbs of Tamworth in the early hours of Tuesday.

At least three men were reportedly involved in a string of events allegedly involving knife and axe-wielding robberies and a violent crash in the northwest of NSW.

The first of the incidents began at a home on Margaret St in South Tamworth, where a black sedan with SA number plates was allegedly stolen in a break-and-enter reported to NSW Police about 1.50am.

That car was found dumped on Jonathon St in South Tamworth shortly after, and police said: “Two people were seen leaving the area in a black sedan.”

Three males, one with an axe and another with a knife, then allegedly invaded a home on The Heights at Hillvue, the next suburb over, about 4.40am.

They allegedly threatened a 24-year-old man inside, and stole a mobile phone, five watches and a Volkswagen Passat.

Half an hour later, at 5am, a stolen sedan crashed into a man and woman in a white ute driving near the intersection of Links Ave and Susanne St in Tamworth.

The sedan rolled on to its side upon impact.

The driver of the ute stopped at the scene, and an unknown male from the overturned, stolen sedan approached the passenger side of the ute, smashed the window, and threatened a woman inside.

He demanded the woman’s handbag, and then fled in a nearby silver vehicle with a black roof.

“Another two males were seen running from the scene,” NSW Police said.

“The woman suffered a cut to her arm and was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital for treatment.”

The stolen Volkswagen Passat from the robbery in Hillvue was found abandoned on Gidgee St at Hillvue at 10.30am, and NSW Police said the car “will undergo forensic testing.”

The stolen mobile phone stolen during the same incident was also found by a member of the public about 11am.

“Investigations into the incidents are ongoing, however initial inquiries suggest they are linked,” NSW Police said.

Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact Tamworth Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
