Two out of the three transformers at the Waratah Super Battery, on the NSW Central Coast north of Sydney, have shut down, temporarily reducing capacity.

Akaysha Energy, owned by American private equity giant BlackRock, confirmed problems were identified during testing.

A spokesman said the super battery, due to come online in 2026, was still operating at 350 megawatts and there was no effect on the New South Wales electricity grid.

The State’s former Coalition government announced plans for the super battery project in early 2022 to be built near Budgewoi on the site of the former Munmorah coal-fired power station.
