New South Wales has recorded its first confirmed case of avian influenza, with six total cases now identified across Australia.

A woman has been charged with murder after the body of a young boy was discovered at a home on the NSW Central Coast.

Emergency services were called to a property in Wyong on Saturday afternoon following concerns for welfare, after police had earlier attempted to speak with a woman at Wyong Police Station about 4.40pm.

“Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District arrived at the property and located the body of a child,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

“The child is yet to be formally identified, however, is believed to be a four-year-old boy.”

When officers arrived at the home, they found the body of a child with significant injuries to his arms.

Police arrested the 32-year-old woman, believed to be known to the child, at Wyong Police Station.

She’s now been charged with murder (domestic violence) and refused bail to front bail court on Sunday.

Police have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.

Inquiries are ongoing.
