Oz Lotto: Main Beach man wins $8 million division one prize on his birthday in Queensland
He said he did not want to share the news with his wife over the phone.
A man has received a “mind-boggling” surprise on his birthday.
The Queenslander, based on the Gold Coast, held the only division one winning entry in the country on Tuesday’s Oz Lotto draw.
It was not until late Wednesday afternoon that he learned of his prize from a phone call.

“I think I need to grab a cold drink. My throat is dry!
“Well, this doesn’t happen often! What a birthday present! Someone ringing me, to tell me I’ve won $8 million on my birthday. That’s a really nice gift!”
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1699 were 9, 8, 30, 29, 32, 22 and 17, while the supplementary numbers were 23, 45 and 40.
Like many Australians, the man said he and his wife make jokes each week about not winning a prize.
“Every Saturday, I take my wife out to dinner for a date-night, and I’m always saying, ‘Oh, they bloody didn’t ring us again!’,” he said.
The father said he was going to hold on to the secret a little longer until his wife returned from work.
“I’m going to wait until I finish work to tell her the great news. I don’t want to do it over a phone call.” “I’ll have to stop into the bottle-o and buy a bottle of champagne. I’m sure she will say to me, ‘Why do you have tears in your eyes? Are you okay?’.
He said that his family had been having a “tough time” recently amid health troubles.
“So this has come at a good time,” the man said.
The man’s ticket was purchased on The Lott website.
