A P-plate rider was clocked at double the speed limit and had his licence revoked only hours after receiving it.

The 18-year-old Karabar man will face the ACT Magistrates Court after he was caught riding at more than 180km/h in a 90km/h zone on Wednesday.

Police observed the man overtaking a vehicle as he entered onto the Monaro Highway from Hindmarsh Drive.

He continued to accelerate, reaching a speed of 182km/h before being stopped by police.

It was the discovered the rider had only held his NSW provisional licence for less than 24 hours.

The man’s right to ride and drive in the ACT was immediately suspended and his motorcycle was seized.

He was charged with driving dangerously at speed, exceeding speed of 45km/h and riding an unsafely maintained vehicle.
