A 56-year-old man has faced court on charges of wounding and assault over an altercation at Destino restaurant at Hope Island.

A corporate high-flyer accused of stabbing another man at a swanky Gold Coast restaurant was motivated to allegedly attack his victim over comments to his wife.

Robert Huntley, director of insurance brokerage firm Everest Risk Group, was released on bail on Thursday after spending a night in the Southport watchhouse.

Huntley, 56, is accused of confronting three men at Hope Island’s Destino restaurant about 4.45pm on Wednesday.

A fight broke out and Huntley allegedly stabbed a 54-year-old man in the back and assaulted a 58-year-old man.

A 60-year-old man suffered a laceration in the altercation.

Huntley’s charges of wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm were heard in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday, when he was granted bail on the conditions he does not drink alcohol, avoids contact with his alleged victims and stays 500m away from Destino restaurant.

The court heard his wife had told him about rude comments made to her at Sanctuary Cove.

He is accused of taking a knife from his Hope Island home and travelling to the restaurant where the fight broke out.

The court was told the 54-year-old victim had been released from hospital, but the 58-year-old man remained in Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment to hip and leg injuries.

Huntley is described on Everest Risk Group’s website has having “25 years’ experience in the insurance industry” and managing a “portfolio of clients including predominantly fund managers, stockbrokers, securities dealers, financial planners, corporate advisory, private equity, venture capital and accountants”.

A post on the company’s Facebook page in 2020 described him as being in the company’s “A-team”.

Barefoot and wearing a yellow “R U OK” t-shirt, he declined to comment when he left watchhouse.
