A worker has died at a Queensland coal mine after what has been described as an “industrial traffic incident” — the second death at the mine in the past month.
Emergency services were called to the Byerwen Mine in Suttor around 1.10pm on Thursday. The person was declared dead at the scene.
Queensland Police’s forensic crash unit is assisting Resources Safety and Health Queensland with its investigations.

The tragedy comes just weeks after another death at the QCoal Group-owned mine site.
Father-of-five Chris Schloss, 48, died on August 3 after being struck by a crane.
Resources Safety and Health Queensland is investigating Mr Schloss’ death and has indicated the incident involved a pick and carry crane.
QCoal paid tribute to Mr Schloss on social media, saying his death had “devastated the QCoal workforce, his friends and family”.
“Our focus has been on the welfare of his wife Amanda and Chris’ five children, along with his shattered workmates.”
In the post, the company acknowledged Mr Schloss’ integral involvement in building the camp at Byerwen from its greenfield site to a $30m home-away-from-home for its 800 workers.
They said Mr Schloss had helped lead a campaign to fight to preserve the camp, featuring on billboards and in TV, newspaper and radio ads and across digital and social media.
