Police are investigating if a man jumped to his death from a balcony after the body of a woman suffering from stab wounds was found inside a unit complex in Sydney’s inner west.

A member of the public alerted NSW Police after finding the man’s body in the courtyard of the complex on Conder Street in Burwood.

Detectives discovered the woman’s body after watching CCTV footage captured inside the complex and viewing an unidentified female walking towards the unit on the vision.

When they checked inside the unit, they found the body of a woman who had been stabbed.

Burwood Police Area Command Commander Superintendent Christine McDonald said the man and woman, who she described as Asian and in their 20s and 30s, had yet to be formally identified and said it was too early to say whether they had died in a murder-suicide or a domestic violence incident.

“We’re working through the identity of both deceased persons and any other person that resides in the unit complex that might have been in the area at the time,” she said.

“As you know, it’s not always the person on the lease that is the person within the complex so we want to make sure and we’ve got to dot all our Is and cross our Ts to make sure that we get that formal identification correct.

Superintendent McDonald said it was possible the man had jumped from the balcony as he had suffered injuries to his ankles and forensic specialists have established crime scenes inside the unit and the courtyard.
