A little Queensland boy has been hospitalised with “significant” injuries after being mauled by a border collie at a home in Townsville.

The five-year-old was visiting the dog’s owner at a home on Burdna St, Kirwan when he was attacked on Sunday night.

A spokesperson from the Queensland Ambulance Service said the boy suffered “significant lacerations to the chest and shoulder” as well as minor injuries to his face, stomach and legs.

He was taken to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition.

It’s understood the dog was an older border collie.

A Townsville City Council spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au the dog’s owner voluntarily euthanised the animal.

“There is no prior history with this animal,” the spokesperson said.

“Council will continue to investigate the matter and undertake appropriate enforcement actions.”
