A man has been seriously injured when he fell 5m into a water tank, south of Brisbane.

The man, aged in his 50s, fell into the underground rainwater pit about 1.40pm on Monday in Daisy Hill.

The man had been working at a business on John Paul Dr when he fell.

Another person ran to his aid and tried to reach him with a ladder, as emergency services were also called in.

Firefighters rescued the man from the bottom of the 5m-deep tank.

Paramedics treated him for significant head and leg injuries and he was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.

WorkSafe Queensland is investigating and has been contacted for comment.
