A machete has been held to a mother's neck in her own bedroom during a terrifying home invasion on Brisbane's southside.

A Brisbane mother has been traumatised when a machete was held to her throat in a terrifying burglary at her home.

Two knife-wielding teenagers broke into the Macknish Cres home in Coopers Plains about 10.40pm on Saturday while the 50-year-old woman and her two daughters were inside, police said.

The two boys entered the mother’s bedroom and threatened her, demanding her car keys, police said.

Meanwhile the two daughters barricaded themselves inside their rooms to hide from the intruders.

“They started banging on my door and kicking it in, I’m there on the phone with triple 0,” one of the daughters told 7NEWS.

“I got in my dresser to barricade myself in there.”

The daughter said the teens threatened their mother with the machete, holding the weapon to her throat.

“They were threatening to kill her if she didn’t give them the keys,” the daughter said.

“They even had it on her throat, saying: ‘Give us the car keys! Give us the car keys!’

“You think that you live in a nice community, in a nice area, but it doesn’t matter, it can happen to anyone.”

Police said the teens ran off with a garage remote and house keys.

It is suspected the same boys unsuccessfully attempted to break into a home on Lewis St, where they smashed windows trying to get in.

Two boys, aged just 13 and 16, were later arrested in Sunnybank about 1.30am on Sunday.

They were both charged with multiple offences including armed robbery and were denied bail.

They are due to appear before Brisbane Children’s Court on February 3.
