A man has suffered crushing injuries while working at an underground coal mine in central Queensland.

The man, reported to be in his 30s, was at the Broadmeadows mine near Moranbah on Saturday morning when he was pinned by an unspecified object.

It has not been revealed if he was underground when the incident occurred.

He was taken by paramedics to Moranbah Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

He was then flown to Mackay Hospital, where he remains on Monday.

The incident is under investigation by the state government mining safety watchdog.

“Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) was notified of an incident resulting in crush injuries to a coal mine worker at Broadmeadow mine,” a spokesperson said.

“The worker is receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

“An investigation has been launched and RSHQ inspectors are attending the site.

“Resources Safety and Health Queensland’s vision is zero serious harm in our resources sector.”

The mine is operated by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA).

It is the latest in a string of recent serious mining incidents in Queensland regarding worker safety, with two men killed at QCoal’s Byerwen mine within weeks last month and a 27-year-old killed at BMA’s Saraji coal mine in Dysart in January.
