The mother of a baby boy who died at a family-run daycare in Brisbane’s south has described her heartbreak over the sudden tragic loss.

Emergency services were called to a Wakerley property after the one-year-old was found dead about 3.30pm on Monday.

The baby, Riley Ma, was in a happy mood when he was dropped off at the home daycare, run by a local family, just after 7.30am, according to The Courier Mail.

Later in the day, Riley’s father reportedly received a message stating “something bad has happened” and was asked to go to the property.

A close friend of the family, Katrina Zhang, told The Courier Mail an ambulance had arrived by the time the father got there.

“The dad got there fairly quickly and found that Riley wasn’t responding,” Ms Zhang said.

“The ambulance were already there and they were trying to do what they could to resuscitate him.

“They tried for a while and then just declared he’s already gone.”

Ms Zhang said it was “devastating for the family.”

Riley’s mother, who was not named, told The Courier-Mail she is struggling to deal with the loss.

“I can’t drink, I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I just miss my little boy,” she said.

“Me and my husband cherished our baby very much.

“He’s my everything.”

Queensland Police said investigations into the circumstances of the boy’s sudden death are ongoing.

“There is no further information at this time,” they said.
