A roadworker is fighting for life following a hit-and-run crash in Queensland.

The search is underway for a white Toyota Camry travelling on Mount Lindesay Highway in the early hours of Thursday morning, that struck a man.

Police say the driver failed to stop at the scene and render aid.

The roadworker, a 66-year-old man, was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are appealing to the driver of the Camry to come forward.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any relevant dashcam footage is urged to contact the police.
