One person has been killed in Queensland as their cabin was engulfed by flames.

The cabin on Star Dr in Sugarloaf — in the Whitsunday region — caught fire about 7pm on Wednesday and was reported to authorities as a “large blaze”.

“Upon arrival, a cabin was located fully engulfed,” Queensland Police said.

A person who was inside the property died in the fire.

Residents of nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution, but no one else was physically injured.

“The property will remain a crime scene as officers work to confirm the identity of the occupant,” police said.

“Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.”
