Queensland Police declare emergency after finding ‘suspicious device’ on Peregian Beach

Queensland Police have made an emergency declaration following the discovery of a “suspicious device” on Peregian Beach.

The declaration was made at 12.30pm.

An exclusion zone is now in place for the beach, which is located about two hours north of Brisbane in the Sunshine Coast region.

The zone encompasses David Low Way from Podargus Parade to Woodland Drive, and including Martin St, Avocet St, Peregian Esp, Parakeet Cres, Egrer St, Teal St, Currawong Cres, Osprey Ave, Tern St, Garnet St, Ibis St, Pelican St and Kingfisher Drive.

Specialist police are now on scene and residents are advised to stay indoors unless notified by the police.

Members of the public are also advised to avoid the area.
