A rooftop rescue is unfolding after a fire broke out in a multistorey building, leaving emergency crews working urgently to reach a person stranded above the blaze.

A dramatic rooftop rescue is underway in inner-city Brisbane after a fire broke out on the top level of a multistorey building, leaving a person stranded above the blaze.
Emergency crews were called to a Little Cribb St address in Milton at 1.55pm, where smoke and flames were reported on the upper floors.
Fire had already taken hold on the top level and later spread to the sixth storey before firefighters brought it under control.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman confirmed a person was stranded on the roof of the building, with crews working to assist them down.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by 2.20pm, and paramedics remain at the scene on standby.

Traffic in the surrounding area has also been disrupted, with lanes reduced on Caxton St in Petrie Tce. Motorists should expect delays as emergency operations continue nearby.
