On Wednesday, a Queensland Police spokesman said detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit and Maryborough Criminal Investigation Branch had charged two men, aged 29 and 31, with murder following Norgate’s death.

The spokesman said Norgate died from injuries sustained in an alleged assault that occurred at the jail.

The men are due to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Norgate was first jailed in March 2020 after being found guilty of five child offences, including the 2019 sexual assault of two boys in a Gladstone school bathroom while dressed as a security guard.

He served just 14 months of his four-year jail sentence before it was suspended.

He later faced court on other occasions including for failing to report a reportable offender under the Child Protection (Offender Reporting and Offender Prohibition Order), possessing a needle and for contravening an offender prohibition order.

In 2023, he was handed a two-year prison sentence after he was caught grooming a 12-year-old.
