She was found on a footpath by emergency services called to the street.

Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was taken to Toowoomba Hospital, where she died.

Police have broken the news to her next of kin.

“It’s devastating, that person losing their life in such a way and that’s why we’ll be doing our best to ascertain exactly what occurred,” Detective Inspector Brian Collins said.

A man in his 50s was also treated for a head injury at the scene, and another man for emotional distress.

Several people witnessed the shooting, which prompted police to swarm the area and close local roads.

Surrounding residents were told to remain indoors.

“There are three associates of the victim who are assisting us with inquiries,” Collins said.

Police said it is still unclear what sparked the shooting, although there is “nothing to indicate” this is a domestic violence incident, and do not believe it is drug related.

Police have not confirmed whether they have seized a gun or what type of firearm was used.

Multiple active crime scenes have been established at the home and surrounding areas.

Police performed a grid search looking for evidence, including bullet casings.

“There is no concern with public safety at this point in time,” Collins said.

A person in a blue forensics jumpsuit was seen being placed inside a police car at the scene.

Police have called for witnesses in the area between 1.30pm and 2pm to contact Crime Stoppers.
