Cameras capture moments before boy critically injured in hammer-throw accident at St Albans Reserve, Adelaide
Security cameras have captured students training inside an Adelaide hammer throw cage moments before a boy was hit in the head, leaving the 13-year-old fighting for his life.
The freak sporting accident happened at St Alban’s Reserve in Clearview on Thursday night.

He has undergone emergency surgery and remains in a critical condition on Friday.
Hammer throw involves swinging and launching a tethered metal ball as far as possible.
The weight of the hammer is 7.3kg for men competing at international competitions, and 4kg for women.
Security video from a nearby property shows students practising the sport moments before the boy is hit, triggering an emergency response.
7NEWS understands students were preparing for an annual state athletics competition.
CBC released a statement on Friday saying an investigation into the incident is underway.
“One of our Year 7 students was involved in a very unfortunate accident during athletics training at St Albans Reserve and is currently in a critical condition,” principal David Johnston said.
“The accident is under ongoing investigation, with all staff and students who were present assisting in the process.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the student, their family, friends and the wider CBC community.”
‘Tragic situation’
SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said it was a “tragic situation”.
“We know this young boy’s fighting for his life now as a result of the injury he sustained,” Stevens said.
“Obviously there will be inquiries in relation to what led to the injury occurring but at this point in time we’re just hoping that he pulls through.”
Counselling is being offered to other students at the school.
SafeWork SA has confirmed it is looking into the incident alongside police.
