The elderly woman was unresponsive when she was pulled from the water by SA Police, who were the first emergency service unit to arrive at the artificial lake.

They performed CPR on the woman on a nearby footpath before she was taken to hospital.

She died in hospital on Wednesday morning.

The woman is local to the area and regularly walks around the lake, 7NEWS understands.

The death is not believed to be suspicious, SA Police said.

The woman’s son, who also lives near the lake, told The Advertiser he was taking a shower and was unaware his mother was in danger until he saw emergency services, went outside for a closer look and recognised her.

The outlet also reported the 76-year-old woman may have dropped her phone into the lake and tried to retrieve it.
