A man is wanted by police after allegedly assaulting a bakery owner he was attempting to rob in Adelaide’s north over the weekend.

It’s alleged the man on the CCTV footage, walked into the Gawler Hot Bread Bakery on Murray St around 7am on Saturday.

The footage shows the man grabbing drinks from the bakery’s fridges, then stashing them inside his bag before leaving..

The store’s owner, Ryan Nguyen took chase after the man, and confronted him outside the bakery.

This is where the confrontation escalated, with the suspect allegedly assaulting the owner, and throwing a nearby chair at him.

Mr Nguyen told 7NEWS that this isn’t the first time the alleged thief had visited his bakery, and said it was lucky that he was behind the counter and not another family member.

“He hit the chair on my head... it will get worse,” he said.

The man, seen wearing a dark jacket and pants, took off with a bag of drinks.

Anyone who can identify the man or has any information is being asked to contact police.
