A South Australian police officer was allegedly bitten on the face while responding to a family disturbance in Adelaide’s west overnight.

Police tasered the woman, saying it was because she was acting aggressively while being removed from a home in Woodville Gardens about 12.20am

Witnesses accused police of using excessive force.

“Last night was just horrendous what the police did, tasered a woman four times — I think that was ridiculous,” one neighbour said.

After reviewing body-worn camera footage, South Australia Police told 7NEWS there were no issues about the response and said the taser was used only once.

The officer was taken to hospital with bites to the forearm and face.

The 23-year-old woman was also taken to hospital for assessment.

She was later charged with assaulting a prescribed emergency worker and resisting arrest and woman will appear in Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on November 20.
