Two dogs, a Jack Russell and an American Staffie, were locked inside a Ford Territory on a warm day at a Davoren Park home for several hours without water or food.

Tempers have flared at an Adelaide home after two dogs were left unattended in a car on a warm day, prompting concerned tradies to call for help.

7NEWS cameras were at the Davoren Park property, in the northern suburbs, when RSPCA inspectors arrived following reports of a Jack Russell and an American Staffordshire terrier locked inside a Ford Territory.

Tradie TJ was working on the street when he noticed the distressed animals inside the vehicle parked outside the home.

“It was a warm day, panting. There was obviously no water in there, no food,” TJ told 7NEWS.

The concerned worker said the dog’s owner told him the animals were safer in the car than out on the street, but he wasn’t convinced.

“So yeah, first thing we did was call the police,” he said.

Police didn’t attend, but RSPCA inspectors did respond to the call. By the time they arrived, the dogs had been removed from the vehicle but the home’s occupants were in no mood to talk.

“How long have the dogs been kept in the car?” the occupants were asked.

“I don’t know,” came the reply.

When approached by 7NEWS, a friend of the occupants responded aggressively: “Yeah, what do you f***ing want?”

“I’ve been told there were some dogs,” 7NEWS reporter Ben Cashin responded, while the man added: “Yeah, well you’re f***ing told f*** all, so f*** off.”

Two RSPCA inspectors carefully made their way to the front door, assessed the dogs and spoke to the people inside.

In a statement to 7NEWS, the RSPCA confirmed both animals appeared unharmed and said a warning would be issued about the dangers of leaving dogs unattended inside cars.

However, TJ believes the animals should have been removed from the property.

“It’s a shame. It’s a shame,” he said.
