A young Hope Valley man has died when a motorbike and road train collided in South Australia’s mid-north.

The Yamaha motorcycle and road train crashed on Augusta Hwy, about 4km north of Beaufort, about 5.45pm on Thursday.

Emergency services were called but the 28-year-old rider died at the scene, SA Police said.

The road train driver, a 65-year-old man, was not injured.

The Augusta Hwy was closed for several hours as police launched an investigation into the crash, but the highway has since been reopened to traffic.

Investigations are ongoing and any witnesses or people with dashcam footage are urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

The man’s death was the 14th life lost on the state’s roads so far this year.
