It is understood the man had been living in Victoria and was visiting Tasmania at the time.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time,” a police statement reads.

The area where the man was climbing is known as a spot that has much to offer climbers, with an array of easier climbs plus some more suited to those with experience.

Climbing websites warn sandstone on the crag can be brittle when wet.

A report will now be prepared for the Coroner.
