Toddler fighting for life, three others injured in truck crash on Great Western Hwy, Blackheath

A toddler is fighting for life and three other people have been injured in a three-vehicle crash in NSW overnight.

A semi-trailer and Subaru sedan collided head-on before the truck crashed into a Toyota Corolla on Great Western Hwy, Blackheath about 7pm Monday, police said.

Police rescue and Fire and Rescue NSW worked to free the drivers of the Subaru and Toyota from the wreckage before they were treated by paramedics.

The driver of the Subaru, a 27-year-old man, suffered serious leg and chest injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

His passenger, a two-year-old boy, was treated for head injuries and taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.

The 29-year-old male driver of the Toyota suffered internal injuries and was transferred to Nepean Hospital in a stable condition.

The truck driver, a 46-year-old man, was treated for minor injuries and taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police shut the highway in both directions for several hours overnight but it has since reopened between Medlow Bath and Blackheath on Tuesday morning.

Specialist police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
