The young Queenslander had been working as a contract stockman near Katherine for about two years.
Tributes have flooded social media, describing Cameron as an extremely kind young man.
“The wildest of wild you were definitely one of a kind,” Mikayla Jade wrote.
“From your hippie, beach boy, spear fishing days to your final cowboy era I’m so grateful to of (sic) had you in my life.
“I never thought you would’ve become one of my best friends and a new little big brother.”
Jade added Cameron had “always looked out for” and “protected” her.
“It breaks my heart that I won’t get to hear your goofy laugh or see your face again, which always seemed to be busted up and have some kind of bull yarn story,” she said.
“I’ll miss our dnm’s full of shit talk and our serious life chats, our phone calls that always ended with a “love love you be safe”, and hearing your nicknames you had for me like ‘ling ling and old girl”.
Another loved one said Cameron’s accident occurred while he was “living out his absolute dream”, and added he “wouldn’t have wanted it any other way”.
“This week our world stopped turning. We can’t begin to fathom life without you Alasdair Cameron,” he said.
“Your cheeky grin, your cowboy swagger with your amazing team of dogs in tow is how we will always remember you.”
Heartbroken locals in Monto, Cameron’s hometown, 500km north of Brisbane, are gathering later in December to pay tribute to the young musterer.
Police are investigating the incident.
A report will also be prepared for the coroner.
